Our Research
Fighting Blindness is an Irish charity funding world-leading research into cures for blindness – an incredible achievement for an organisation that was started by a group of Irish patientsin 1983.
Researchers funded by Fighting Blindness were the first in the world to discover the gene responsible for the blinding condition Retinitis Pigmentosa. Since then we have relentlessly pursued solutions to different causes of blindness and are now close to cures for some sight loss conditions. Our work focusses on retinal degenerative diseases.
We are indepted to all the hard-working scientists who have dedicated their time, energy and expertise to Fighting Blindness research over the 25 years.
Fighting Blindness currently funds research projects through the Fighting Blindness Vision Research Institute in addition to universities, hospitals and colleges around Ireland and the UK.
