Paralympic tandem cyclists Joanne Hickey (right) and Gavin Allman (left) launched the Fighting Blindness Australia Cycling Challenge with Patrick Quinn, Fighting Blindness CEO, and Australian Ambassador to Ireland Ms Anne Plunkett.
This exciting event is in association with the Paralympics Cycling Ireland and will include riders with visual impairments who will be on tandems with pilot cyclists.
The Australian Embassy in Wilton Terrace, Dublin, kindly hosted a reception for Fighting Blindness and Paralympics Cycling Ireland to host the challenge launch.
Fighting Blindness CEO Patrick Quinn said: “For keen cyclists this really is the trip of a lifetime. The money raised will bring hope to people living with these devastating conditions by speeding up our work to develop cures.”
Irish Paralympic Cycling Manager Denis Toomey expressed delight at being involved with the project. He said: “This event will integrate cyclists with a visual impairment in to an exciting adventure and challenge. In addition it will provide support to the Irish Paralympic Cycling Squad’s efforts to qualify for the next Paralympic Games in London in 2012.”
The Australia Cycling Challenge is on October 15 - 30. Find out more today!
