Darrin Morrissey

Our Retina International World Congress (RIWC24) takes place from the 5th – 8th June 2024 in the Dublin Royal Convention Centre, in the heart of Dublin city centre.

Our Scientific Committee has been working relentlessly to secure an impressive lineup of outstanding speakers to shed light on this research area so as part of our Meet the Speaker series, we are delighted to announce one more distinguished speaker.

Darrin Morrissey was appointed CEO of National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) in June 2020.

We are delighted to have Darrin Morrissey with us at the Retina International World Congress as a panellist at the ‘High unmet medical needs in retinal degenerations.’ panel on Friday, June 7, 4:45 PM – 5:45 PM.

Immediately prior to joining NIBRT, Darrin was the CEO at the Health Research Board (HRB), Ireland’ primary funder of health and health system research. Previously Darrin was the Director of Programmes and Investments with Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), where he led the delivery of STEM research funding to the Irish research institutions.

Darrin’s past experiences also includes 16 years in the pharmaceutical industry – with GSK, Sanofi and others – in a variety of senior roles spanning across clinical research, commercial and manufacturing. Darrin qualified with a BSc in Microbiology and a PhD in Cancer Biology from University College Cork.

Over recent years Darrin has been a member of numerous national and international policy and decision-making bodies, including the governing board of Science Europe, the British Irish Chamber of Commerce Higher Education & Research Steering Group, Knowledge Transfer Ireland Stakeholder Forum and Enterprise Ireland’s Industrial Research and Commercialisation Committee.
