The Conscious Commute – Dresden to Cork for Fighting Blindness

Gregor Herda, from Dresden in Germany, is a graduate planning student at University College Cork (UCC). On Friday, June 21, Gregor started out on an epic walk from Dresden to Cork and will arrive in Cork in time for the start of the semester in UCC.

Gregor has called his journey ‘The Conscious Commute’ and came up with the idea for the walk after calculating his carbon footprint from flying over and back from Germany to Cork during the college year. He then decided to use the walk to raise awareness and funds for Fighting Blindness, he explains that “experiencing sight loss due to Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) myself, I would like to use this walk to raise funds for the outstanding work of Fighting Blindness,an Irish charity with a vision to cure blindness, support those experiencing sight loss and empower patients”

This walk is an unbelievable undertaking and we have been blown away by Gregor’s amazing determination and generosity in supporting Fighting Blindness in this way. We are delighted to be involved with Grogor’s adventure and are looking forward to welcoming him when he finally arrives back in Cork!

Gregor has been keeping a blog during his travels and you can read all about his experiences so far on his website – The Conscious Commute. You can also follow his progress on Facebook and Twitter.

If you would like to make a donation to Gregor’s fundraising efforts, you can do so through the Fighting Blindness website or Gregor’s MyCharity page.

Fighting Blindness will be with Gregor every step of the way on his epic journey, best of luck and thank you!
