Kells Head Shave Raises €6,235 for Fighting Blindness!

Nell and Johnny Mongey from Kells organised a sponsored head shave in O’Connor’s Bar in Kells on December 23 to raise funds for research into treatments and cures for blindness. Johnny took part in the head shave along with 14 of his friends, including Meath footballer Mickey Newman. Each brave participant raised their own sponsorship and sacrificed both hair and beards in support of the event.

Accepting the cheque in Kells on Saturday night last, Fighting Blindness Community Fundraising Officer Michael Ryan spoke about the event, saying: “It has been a pleasure to work with Nell and Johnny over the past few months. They have put a lot of effort into raising awareness of Fighting Blindness and I am delighted that their event has been such a resounding success. The funds raised from the head shave will go towards research projects in Ireland and we are very grateful to everyone who helped out and took part in the event.”
