‘Living with Sight Loss’ is a free, weekly confidence building course starting on Thursday 26 September in the Southern Hotel, Sligo. The four-week course will help people who have experienced sight loss to increase their confidence and independence. Partners, family and friends are welcome to attend.
The first session will take place on Thursday 26 September. The other three sessions will take place on Tuesday 1, 8 and 15 October 2019.
This course is delivered through our ‘Need to Talk’ project, an emotional support and confidence building service supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The informal course will provide information and practical advice on a range of essential everyday topics such as getting out and about, information about welfare rights, and how technology can make life that bit easier.
Phyllis Murray, who is a Fighting Blindness member and lives in Sligo, said, “Growing up with sight loss was hard, there was no-one to talk to and it felt like no-one understood. All that changed when I joined Fighting Blindness. The support is invaluable.
“I’m delighted Fighting Blindness is running this course in Sligo. I did a similar course years ago and it was brilliant. It’s a place to learn new skills and meet people who understand your experiences. I encourage everyone living with sight loss in Sligo to try to attend and take advantage of this free resource.”
Eric Beggs, attendee at a previous Living with Sight Loss course in Dundalk said, “It was a brilliant course and I really did learn a lot. It was practical and useful. I would 110% recommend this to other people living with sight loss and their families.”
The course is available to anyone living with sight loss in Sligo and the nearby border region of Leitrim, Cavan, Donegal or Northern Ireland.
