Steps for Sight

Get moving in June and join the Fighting Blindness Steps for Sight virtual event. We’re calling people of all ages and abilities to walk, jog or run to support people living with sight loss in Ireland.

We know so many of you, our incredible supporters, were looking forward to taking part in fundraising events this year. Now, whilst everything is postponed, we invite you to join our new virtual challenge.

Sign up for a half marathon (21km) or challenge yourself to a full marathon (42km).

This race is just like any other race, but with one exception – you choose when and where you do it!

You can run or walk by yourself or with your family at a time that suits you. Please comply with the current government and public health guidelines in relation to Covid-19 and the app will look after the rest.

Entries cost €20 (we’ll receive €15) and each participant will receive a e-bib, certificate of completion and an e-medal.

We have some brilliant prizes up for grabs too:

  • Everyone who takes part will be entered into a raffle to win a €100 One4all voucher
  • The top times in both challenges will win a €50 One4all voucher
  • The top fundraiser will win a hamper full of goodies!

Everyone can join the fun – here’s how:

  1. Register for Steps for Sight
  2. Download the Your Virtual Race App on iOS or Android (you’ll receive a link in your confirmation email)
  3. Please ensure you allow the app to use your location
  4. Navigate to the “Challenges” tab in the App

  6. The challenge opens on June 1 until June 30.
  7. When you are ready to run, walk or jog, navigate back to the challenge page and record your journey, ensuring to click start and stop when finished.
  8. You can run or walk as often as you like during this time until you reach your chosen target, please use the app each time.
  9. Don’t forget to set up a Facebook fundraiser or a JustGiving page if you would like to raise extra money to support people living with sight loss.
  10. Share any photos or videos of your challenge  with us on social media using the hashtag #Steps4Sight

With your help, we will get to cure sooner.

It’s unbelievable that such a small nation is doing world-leading research into conditions causing sight loss. Money raised in communities around Ireland is funding research which is having a worldwide impact. It really says everything about the organisation.
