Target 3000 BecomesTarget 5000 – Gateway to Vision

We are delighted to announce that the development of our patient registry for individuals with inherited retinal degenerations, has become a truly All-Ireland venture. Our cross-border collaboration, and funding of Dr Giuliana Silvestri of Queen’s University Belfast  for the next three years, will strengthen this important project which aims to provide genetic testing for the estimated 5,000 people in Ireland who have a genetic retinal condition and paves the way for future clinical trials.

In recognition of this important collaboration, which also involves Dr Paul Kenna of the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin and Mr David Keegan of the Mater Hospital, Dublin, we are now renaming this project Target 5000, to include the increased numbers of individuals in Northern Ireland.
