Heartfelt thanks to Paul Flanagan who nominated Fighting Blindness as his chosen charity of the May DoneDeal Charity Month, we are so grateful for the incredible support.
Thanks also to the Done Deal community for contributing to this wonderful campaign. We are simply blown away by the kindness and generosity.
This generous donation will fund vital vision research projects to help find treatments and cures for blindness, such as our Target 5000 project. One of the biggest challenges for people with inherited retinal conditions is the lack of a precise diagnosis.
Approximately 5000 people in Ireland are affected by a genetic retinal condition. Sadly many of these people are misdiagnosed – or do not have any diagnosis – as they need complicated DNA testing to uncover exactly which gene has caused their condition. When the gene responsible for an individual’s condition can be identified it can mean so much – A more accurate diagnosis and access to clinical trials, which may lead to treatments and cures in the future.
