Vacancy: Head of Fundraising and Development

Fighting Blindness was founded in 1983 with a mission to find treatments and cures for conditions causing severe sight loss, support people through our Insight Counselling Service, and empowering the visually impaired community through advocacy and opportunity. Fighting Blindness brings together leading experts who share its pioneering vision for the future and we are looking for an experienced Head of Fundraising and Development to join our team in its next phase of development.

Key Duties and Criteria:

  • Experience of high-level, long-term funding campaigns: They will be expected to develop and manage innovative regular-giving and legacy campaigns and ensure the achievement of fundraising goals.
  • Ability to analyse campaign effectiveness, make data-driven adjustments, optimise results.
  • Creative and strategic thinking to implement the diversification of income streams
  • Understand the legal aspects and working regulations of the charity sector.
  • GDPR knowledge both in-house marketing and digital data management.
  • Budget management.
  • Experience in grant writing and statutory funding.
  • Knowledge and experience of international funding programmes and drive to pursue same
  • Representing fundraising department in managers’ meetings.
  • Large-scale event management experience.
  • People management – check-in, encourage, mentor, develop and direct their team.
  • Experience in major gifts, corporate and community fundraising.
  • Strategic planner – goal-orientated with a growth mindset.

The following criteria are considered essential:

  • Professional qualification and at least 5-years’ experience in public or private sector, ideally with non-profit experience
  • Proven excellent managerial competence and leadership
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and ability to identify, develop and sustain new funding streams
  • Demonstrable experience in growing income and knowledge of the fundraising environment.
  • Experience of developing ambitious fundraising plans and meeting key performance indicators
  • Relevant experience in negotiating large grants or gifts.
  • Experience of working with Major Donors / Mid-Level donors / Trust and Foundations / Legacy supporters, successfully bidding for their support and providing ongoing stewardship.
