Our virtual AGM for members was scheduled to take place on the morning of Monday 10 August via zoom. However under new legislation, Companies (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Covid-19) Act 2020, charities have been offered certain concessions in light of the difficulties created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
One being that an AGM date can be altered but must be held by 31st December 2020.
The Board of Fighting Blindness wish to do this. This is considered most helpful as it will provide us with the opportunity to share the financial statements 21 days in advance of a rescheduled AGM, which due to the pandemic we could not do for this AGM.
This will assist in fully facilitating members engagement and consideration of the financial statements prior to their presentation at the AGM . In addition this legislation confirms that AGMs held purely virtually are legal but must ensure that all measures are undertaken to provide those entitled to attend to participate fully.
With these two factors in particular in mind the Board of Fighting Blindness have decided to defer the AGM from tomorrow to a future date.
This will help us ensure that we avail of every opportunity to maximise member engagement in the process.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and also for the short notice. We will be in contact with members to advise of the new arrangements for the AGM.
