World Sight Day 2019

Today, Thursday October 10, is World Sight Day 2019. It is the most important advocacy and communications day in the eye health calendar and a worldwide event. This year’s theme is Vision First!

1.2 billion people around the world need glasses to see better. Yet more than 75% of visual impairment is avoidable. World Sight Day 2019 is a call to find the solutions to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to sight.

In Ireland, five people lose their sight each week and over 247,000 children and adults are living with sight loss. We work to represent them and empower them. We shine a light on eye conditions and our research is recognised on a global platform.

On World Sight Day 2019, we ask the Irish public to join us in the fight against blindness. Our vision is to cure blindness, support people living with sight loss and empower patients. We need your help.

There are many ways you can help us achieve more –

We’re a member-led organisation working hard to meet the needs of our members as effectively as possible. Membership is open to anyone interested in our work, including people who are affected by vision impairment or blindness and their families, Fighting Blindness supporters and fundraisers, scientists, medical professionals and the general public. By becoming a member you strengthen our voice and our work, there really is power in numbers!

We also run a monthly Private Members Draw to support our mission and help more people. Your generosity will help fund vital vision research, and you could be in with a chance to win a new car as well as lots of other great prizes.

Head to the Get Involved section of our website to learn about the ways you can help us to change more lives.

Join the fight today. Get us to the cure sooner.
